Seatrium has secured a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Golar LNG to advance technical design and project definition work for a potential third floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) conversion project, extending a partnership that has already delivered the industry's only two operational FLNG vessels converted from LNG carriers.

The two parties will jointly advance technical design development and project definition, ahead of finalizing an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract later in the year.

Seatrium will receive an upfront consideration for its activities relating to the LOI prior to the EPC award.

The two companies previously collaborated for delivery of the FLNG Hilli Episeyo in 2017 (2.4 MMt/year of LNG), and FLNG Gimi in 2023 for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project offshore Mauritania and Senegal (2.7 MMt/year). 

These are the sole operational FLNG vessels converted from LNG carriers, Seatrium said.

The proposed project would further expand Golar's portfolio of FLNG assets as operators increasingly look to floating liquefaction solutions to monetize offshore gas resources that may not justify large, land-based LNG developments. FLNG facilities can reduce development timelines and infrastructure requirements while enabling production from remote gas fields.
