Karpowership awards Seatrium ninth FSRU conversion project

Seatrium will convert the LNG carrier LNGT Akdeniz into a floating storage and regasification unit capable of handling up to 600 MMcf/d of natural gas imports.

Why this news matters:

  • The award of a ninth FSRU conversion project highlights continued investment in floating LNG import infrastructure as countries seek flexible energy supply options.

  • The project expands a long-running partnership between Karpowership and Seatrium, which has delivered seven converted FSRUs since 2018 and is moving forward on a second project under their previously announced LOI.

Floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) have transformed how countries import natural gas, offering a faster and more flexible alternative to traditional LNG terminals...

Karpowership has commissioned Seatrium to perform a ninth vessel conversion to a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU).

The collaboration has led to the delivery of seven FSRUs converted from LNG carriers since 2018, the most recent being LNGT Türkiye, which departed the Admiralty Yard in Singapore last month.

The newly awarded project will involve converting another LNG carrier to the FSRU, LNGT Akdeniz, with LNG import capability and a regasification capacity of up to 600 MMcf/d. Work is due to start in first-quarter 2027.

Seatrium's scope covers engineering, conversion, integration, installation and commissioning of regasification equipment and associated systems.

LNGT Akdeniz is the second project to materialize under the previously announced Letter of Intent (LOI) between the two parties. Apart from three FSRU conversions, the LOI had also provided for the potential integration of up to six new-generation Powerships, creating opportunities for both companies to support evolving global energy needs through integrated floating energy solutions.
