Hilli Episeyo FLNG departs Cameroon for new role in Argentina LNG project

After eight years producing LNG offshore Cameroon, the Hilli Episeyo FLNG vessel has departed for Singapore upgrades before redeployment to Argentina LNG's planned export project offshore Patagonia.

Why this news matters:

  • Hilli Episeyo's relocation represents a major milestone for Argentina LNG and highlights growing industry reliance on FLNG solutions to accelerate gas export projects.

  • The vessel's move connects two significant LNG regions: one of the world's longest-running FLNG developments offshore Cameroon and Argentina's effort to become a major LNG exporter.

CoreMarine reported that it has completed the disconnection of the Hilli Episeyo FLNG vessel offshore Cameroon.

Why the move matters

The Hilli Episeyo was the world's first converted FLNG vessel and has been a key component of LNG exports from offshore Cameroon since startup. Its redeployment marks a major milestone for Argentina LNG, which aims to monetize Vaca Muerta gas resources through offshore FLNG infrastructure.

FLNG vessel transitions from Cameroon to Argentina

Working from the concept development phase through offshore execution, the company provided project management, engineering, procurement and operational services.

This culminated in the removal of the FLNG vessel after eight years of operation. CoreMarine developed a disconnection methodology specifically for the facility, which it claims simplified offshore operations, and reduced execution time and cost.

Hilli Episeyo will undergo upgrade works for a new role supporting the development of Argentina's LNG export infrastructure.

The vessel, with an LNG production capacity of 2.45 MMt/year, is due to reach the Golfo San Matías by mid-2027.

CoreMarine has the contract to transport and install the soft-yoke (SSY) mooring systems and perform hookup of both the Hilli Episeyo FLNG and MKII FLNG at the offshore location.
