LEIDSCHENDAM, the NetherlandsFugro is building a remote operations center (ROC) at its office in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

The new communications hub, due to be completed later this year, will allow offshore operations to be completed onshore using remote and autonomous technologies.

For clients in eastern Canada, Fugro claims, this should lead to safer and more efficient delivery of marine geo-data and associated services.

The new center is part-funded by the Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Oil and Gas Industry Recovery Assistance Fund, due to the local employment opportunities and environmental benefits it offers for supporting existing oil and gas installations.

Fugro also plans to upgrade its equipment on certain offshore client assets to allow for remote services.
