Fugro steers offshore Brazil ROV from Aberdeen ops center

LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands — Fugro and Petrobras have undertaken Brazil’s first remote subsea inspection survey.
The trial, performed as part of an existing multiyear contract, involved an ROV deployed from the Fugro Aquarius ROV support vessel, which office-based personnel in Aberdeen piloted using a high-speed datalink supplied by Petrobras.
In the future, remote ROV piloting may allow Petrobras to limit crew numbers in the field, resulting in safer operations and a minimized carbon footprint, Fugro said.
