COSCO Shipping (Qidong) Offshore has asked Kongsberg Maritime to supply equipment for two new T-Class Wind Turbine Installation Vessels (WTIVs) under construction in China for Cadeler.

The order reflects continued investment across the offshore wind installation vessel market as developers prepare for larger turbine sizes that are expected to exceed 20 MW and require more capable installation assets. Vessel designers and equipment suppliers are increasingly focused on positioning accuracy, power management and operational efficiency to support these projects.

Cadeler's two new WTIVs are due to be delivered in 2030 and 2031. 

Kongsberg Maritime will supply an electrical, automation and propulsion package for both vessels. This will include azimuth and tunnel thrusters, dynamic positioning technology, power generation and distribution systems, propulsion drives, integrated automation and vessel control systems, and energy management solutions.

The systems will support operational control, positioning and energy efficiency during offshore installation operations.

Both T-class vessels are targeted at future offshore wind projects featuring larger next-generation wind turbines and foundations.

The new vessels will expand Cadeler's installation fleet at a time when offshore wind developers are planning projects with larger turbines, heavier monopiles and increasingly complex foundation systems. These trends are driving demand for vessels with greater lifting capacity, advanced positioning capabilities and sophisticated power management systems.
