ABERDEEN, UKMaritime Developments Ltd. (MDL) has performed transpooling in Norway of a flexible jumper for TechnipFMC.

This involved transpooling of a 6-in. flowline from a storage reel onto the quayside using MDL’s second-generation RDS system, allowing end termination support frames to be fitted to the 8.6-m (28.2-ft) reel in accordance with MDL’s design drawings.

The company performed the work ahead of a jumper replacement project planned for early 2021 at Equinor’s Tordis field in the North Sea.

Steven Morrison, MDL project engineering manager, said: “In combination with our equipment and personnel experience we were able to simplify the onshore and offshore handling procedures of the end terminations.

“This project followed shortly from another transpooling campaign elsewhere in Norway using the same MDL RDS. This ensured the system was freshly proven for the job, but also minimized transit costs for the client and any transport concerns due to COVID.

“There were further benefits of using the system: we had built the RDS around the reel in-situ, which eliminated the requirement for a crane hire for lifting the reel, and it is also the preferred route when handling product with end terminations of this size which affect reel and product center of gravity.”
