STOCKHOLM, Sweden Seaway 7 has contracted Trelleborg’s applied technologies operation to provide 86 integrated cable protection systems for RWE’s Kaskasi offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

The company’s NjordGuard cable protection system will be used to protect inter array grid power cables on the project, from over-bending, abrasion, and fatigue.

Production of the 86 cable protection systems will take place in the company’s manufacturing facility in the North of England. Project engineering works will start immediately, with installation activities scheduled for the end of 2021 and beginning of 2022.

NjordGuard is an integrated cable protection system designed and developed to protect power cables in wind turbine generators and offshore substations. Easily assembled on a cable lay vessel to allow speedy installation, the system is manufactured in highly abrasion resistant and API 17L certified Uraduct material. This is said to enable the protection system to travel over the seabed without damage, extending the system life. It is said to facilitate easier installation, reuse, and removal without diver and ROV intervention, optimizing efficiency and maximizing safety.

Located 35 km (22 mi) north of the island of Heligoland, RWE’s Kaskasi offshore wind farm will feature 38 up to 9-MW wind turbine generators, which will be installed on monopile foundations.
