DOHA, Qatar -- Expansion of the Al Shaheen field continues offshore Qatar, according to operator Maersk Oil. To date, 158 of 169 planned wells have been completed and all 15 new platforms are in operation.

Among Maersk’s other interests, production has started from the new Halfdan platform in the Danish North Sea. Offshore Norway, the company will participate in wells this year to appraise the Avaldsnes, Zidane, and T-Rex discoveries.

Off Angola, Maersk plans two appraisal wells on the Chissonga discovery in block 16 to better determine the potential of the area. It is also lining up a possible three exploration wells in other parts of its Angolan acreage in 2011 and 2012.

In Brazil, Maersk is looking to drill more wells to assess the commercial potential of the Carambola oil discovery in offshore block BM-C-37. It is still awaiting approval from Brazil’s authorities for its $2.4-billion acquisition last December of shares in three offshore blocks, but hopes to drill two to three exploration wells in these new areas.
