Kosmos Energy expects Shell to drill the 200-MMboe Trailblazer prospect in the US Gulf of Mexico during the first half of 2027.
This would be the first exploration well for the partnership, formed earlier this year.
In the event of a commercial discovery, Kosmos would be the designated development operator, with Trailblazer likely tied back to Shell's nearby Appomattox platform.
Shell and Kosmos sanctioned the Trailblazer exploration well earlier this year.
Kosmos, which reported the news in its latest results statement, added that the company expects its fourth-quarter US Gulf production to be negatively impacted by planned maintenance on the Delta House platform, which hosts the Odd Job subsea tieback; and also by a workover on the Kodiak-1 well and downtime associated with Hurricane Isaias.
In July, the company completed a farm-out to its operated Tiberius project, with Navitas becoming a 33.33% partner. Occidental (33.33) is owner and operator of the host platform, the Lucius Spar.
The farm-down arrangement comprised upfront cash, carry for future development capex, and future milestone payments. The carry should cover Kosmos' share of expenditure on the project through the first half of 2027.
Elsewhere, Réseau Gazier du Sénégal recently reported that the first phase of the onshore pipeline (the "Northern Segment") to connect the offshore Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas hub to the 230-MW power plant is more than 25% complete.
Kosmos is a partner to operator bp in the GTA development.
