Vallourec has secured supply contracts for offshore energy projects in Brazil and Greece, covering both deepwater oil and gas infrastructure and carbon storage development.
The company will provide line pipe and coating services for Petrobras' Sepia 2 project offshore Brazil and premium tubular products for the Prinos CO2 storage project offshore Greece.
The Sepia 2 award calls for sour-service line pipe designed for corrosive offshore environments, while the Prinos project requires premium tubulars capable of supporting long-term CO2 injection and storage operations.
Together, the awards highlight ongoing demand for specialized pipeline and tubular technologies across both presalt oil and gas developments and emerging offshore carbon storage projects.
Vallourec to support Sepia 2 development offshore Brazil
Vallourec will supply carbon steel seamless line pipe and thermal insulation coating to EPCI contractor Subsea7 for Petrobras’ Sepia 2 project in the presalt Santos Basin offshore Brazil.
The award supports Petrobras' continuing presalt expansion in the Santos Basin, where operators are advancing large-scale subsea developments tied to new FPSOs.
The order covers about 130 km of rigid risers and flowlines, representing more than 15,000 t of sour service carbon steel line pipe.
Vallourec will manufacture the pipes at its Jeceaba mill in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and apply the thermal insulation coating at the Vallourec Coating Solutions plant in Serra, Espírito Santo.
Sepia 2 will feature 15 wells and an export pipeline connected to a new FPSO, moored in 2,170 m of water.
Tubulars selected for Prinos CO2 storage project offshore Greece
Energean subsidiary EnEarth has asked Vallourec to provide premium tubulars for Phase 1 of the Prinos CO2 Carbon Storage project offshore Greece.
The project is among Europe's emerging carbon capture and storage developments, with plans to repurpose a depleted offshore oil reservoir for long-term CO2 sequestration.
Energean plans to convert the depleted oil reservoir at the Prinos Field to a permanent CO2 storage site, with injection capacity of up to 2.8 MMt/year. The proved plus probable storage capacity is 51.5 MMt, according to Netherland, Sewell & Associates’ independent Competent Person’s Report.
The EU has deemed Prinos CO2 a project of common interest, with support provided by European and Greek funding programs. It will receive emissions from industrial sites in Greece and the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.
Vallourec will supply about 3,000 t of casing pipes and accessories, including seamless carbon steel and corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) pipes fitted with VAM premium connections.
The products will be designed to ensure long-term well integrity, supporting safe and permanent subsurface storage of CO2. The scope of supply extends to the dope-free CLEANWEL service, said to reduce the environmental impact.
The contracts demonstrate how offshore suppliers are increasingly serving both conventional oil and gas developments and growing carbon capture and storage projects, which require many of the same well construction and pipeline technologies.
