HOUSTONPalfinger Marine has sold a package of three traveling cranes and two foldable knuckle boom cranes to Aker Solutions for the use at the Mariner platform in the UK North Sea.

The main operator of the Mariner field is Statoil. Production is expected to begin in 2017. The platform will convey an average of 55,000 b/d.

Palfinger Dreggen is delivering the three ATEX-certified traveling cranes equipped with double-safety systems – two TKU25 underslung traveling cranes with a safe working load (SWL) of 25 metric tons (28 tons) and a span of 14 m (46 ft), and one TKU75 underslung traveling crane with SWL of 75 metric tons (83 tons) and a span of 14 m (46 ft). Both cranes are DNV certified. The TKU75 is designed to transfer the BOP and its subassemblies. The TKU25 will be operating to transport material and equipment to the well intervention cathedral area.

Both traveling cranes are equipped with two hoist units, both with double capacity. In case one of the hoists should fail, the remaining one will safely be able to hold the load. This double-safety system was required by the platform operator for lifting over pressurized equipment that is at high risk if the load drops.

Palfinger Marine is providing two ATEX-certified foldable knuckle boom cranes for cargo handling – one PK 50002 MB crane with a lifting capacity of 3.5 metric tons (4 tons) at 8.5 m (28 ft), and one PK 150002 MG crane with a lifting capacity of 2.9 metric tons (3.2 tons)at 18 m (59 ft). Both cranes are DNV-approved for cargo handling.
