AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands – The BigLift vessel BigLift Barentsz has transported an 11,700-metric ton (12,897-ton) jackup platform from the Dutch port of Flushing to West Africa.

The rig had a breadth of 75 m (246 ft), 133-m (436-ft) high legs, and a 125 x 42-m deck (410 x 138-ft) with a uniform grid of bulkheads and web frames.

The project team completed all design, engineering, procurement and construction for the voyage within three weeks. For load spreading purposes, 60 cu m of cribbing wood was positioned on the vessel’s deck.

For the loading operation in Flushing, theBigLift Barentsz slowly inched underneath the rig by means of its engines, two bow anchors, four cross wires from its own winches to the platform, and a stern tug.

Once the vessel had been lined up with the jackup’s frames, the rig could safely be lowered to land onBigLift Barentsz’s deck.

Both the loading and discharge campaign were performed within a day.
