LIVORNO, Italy – First LNG offloading via ship-to-ship transfer has been completed from the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Toscana offshore western Italy.
Offloading started on Sept. 2 from the LNG CarrierLeo. Activity included side-by-side mooring/unmooring, loading arms connection, gas-up and cool down of cargo tanks, and transfer of 109,000 cu m (3.85 MMcf) of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Italy’s Maritime Authority supervised completion of the operation, with certification authorityRINA providing certification.
OLT Offshore’sToscanaLNG regasification terminal arrived at its location offshore Tuscany at the end of July, and has been installed 22 km (13.7 mi) off the coast between Livorno and Pisa. On Aug. 22 the vessel was connected in 120 m (393 ft) water depth to six mooring lines, two risers, and various umbilical lines.
The FSRU is also connected to a subsea pipeline that transports the regasified gas onshore. RINA has issued a certificate of acceptance for the mooring system design and FSRU installation work.
Commissioning will continue for three months, with commercial offloading planned to start by the end of November. At peak, the will have regasification capacity of 3.75 bcm/yr (132 bcf/yr), representing around 4% of Italy’s total gas needs.
