DUBAI, UAE– The floating storage re-gasification unit (FSRU) Toscana has sailed to eastern Italy from Drydocks World in Dubai.

The former 138,830-cu m LNG carrierGolar Frost, originally built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, had been under conversion since June 2009 at the yard for contractor Saipem and owner OLT.

As afloating LNG receiving terminal it will be permanently moored offshore Livorno and connected to shore through a gas export pipeline.

The vessel has a net storage capacity of 137,100 cu m (4.84 bcf) and is classed as a marine unit, designed to remain at the location 19.3 km (12 mi) offshore for 20 years.

It has a steel monohull with four Moss-type LNG tanks. The re-gasification plant is at the forward end with the accommodation and central control room and utility machinery at the aft end.

Conversion involved constructing, installing and commissioning components including a turret mooring system, a side-by-side berthing mooring system for an LNG carrier, LNG storage tanks and loading system, and an LNG transfer system to the re-gasification plant.

Other onboard features are process plant for re-gasification, boil-off gas handling and gas send-out to export system, metering systems, utilities including power generation and sea water systems, control, automation and communications systems, flexible gas risers and a riser base and control umbilical from FSRU.
