STAVANGER, Norway  Wintershall Dea has submitted a plan for development and operation (PDO) for the Dvalin North Field in the Norwegian Sea to Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

This is said to have been the country’s largest discovery in 2021, with reserves estimated at about 84 MMboe.

Plans call for a tieback to the Equinor-operated Heidrun platform via the existing Dvalin Field subsea infrastructure.

Wintershall Dea and partners Petoro and Sval Energi have budgeted NOK8 billion (US$805 million) for the development, which involves drilling three producing wells from a single subsea template 10 km north of the Dvalin Field.

The latter is due to start up in the next few months, following delays caused by processing issues, while Dvalin North should follow in late 2026.

The field is 200 km offshore, west of Sandnessjøen, in a water depth of 420 m. Gas will be exported via the Polarled pipeline to Nyhamna near Kristiansund.
