ZURICH, SwitzerlandMODEC has contracted MAN Energy Solutions to supply five radial compressor and two screw compressor trains for the FPSO for the Equinor-operated Bacalhau field offshore southern Brazil.

The vessel, which will operate 185 km (115 mi) south of São Paulo, in 2,050 m (6,726 ft) of water, will produce and process up to 220,000 b/d of crude oil and up to 15 MMcm/d of gas, with a minimum crude storage of 2 MMbbl.

The compressor systems will help maintain the pressure in the Bacalhau field, helping to maximize the production flow rate and efficiency. MAN’s RB compressors (2 × RB 45-4+5 and 3 × RB 28-6), each driven by an electric, fixed-speed motor, will be used for gas processing, full gas re-injection and gas-lift.

Both SKUEL 510 screw compressors will serve as vapour recovery units, pressurizing any flash-gas created and returning it to the process, rather than burning it off into the atmosphere. According to MAN, this will lead to more efficient gas processing, as well as lowering CO2 emissions.

While the radial compressors will be designed, manufactured and tested in Zurich, the company will manufacture the compressors in Oberhausen, Germany.
