Talos, Shell assessing development options for Daenerys discovery in the US Gulf

Appraisal drilling in Miocene play set to continue into 2027.

Talos Energy’s deepwater Daenerys appraisal well in the US Gulf Walker Ridge region has fulfilled its objectives, the company reported in its latest statement.

Seadrill’s drillship West Vela spudded the well in early July on the deepwater Miocene sub-salt structure, discovered last year, with the well reaching TD in late August.

The results have strengthened understanding of the reservoir and fluid properties. More appraisal drilling should follow next year, including a sidetrack to further evaluate the resource.

Talos and its partners (including Shell) are already assessing development concepts, ranging from a subsea tie-back to a standalone host solution.

The company also expects to drill an exploration well in late 2027 or early 2028 on a nearby prospect acquired in last December’s BBG1 lease sale.

In the Green Canyon region, Talos’ latest development program at the deepwater Brutus field began this summer from the platform-based rig.

The line-up, which includes batch drilling and completions, has been expanded from four to five wells to accommodate an additional sidetrack opportunity. First oil will likely be phased from Q2 through Q4, 2027.
