Woodside has awarded Expro a three-year well construction services contract for the deepwater Trion oil and gas development, 180 km offshore Mexico in the Perdido Fold Belt.

Expro will provide tubular running and cementing services for the development in 2,500 m water depth.

Trion is due to produce first oil in 2028. Woodside is the operator with 60% interest, working with partner PEMEX Exploration & Production Mexico (40%).

Previously, Expro also supported well construction activities in Mexico during the exploration phase. The company will manage the new contract from its shore base and office in Tampico.

The technologies covered, said to cover everything from top drive to total depth, will include TRS casing, completion and drilling support, provision of casing accessories, cement heads, and Expro’s Skyhook system.

In addition, the company is tasked with optimizing well performance, delivering cost-efficiencies and working to improve operations reliability.

Last month, Expro reported that it completed the first deepwater deployment of its Autonomous iTONG system for a well construction program at the Eni-operated Baleine Field offshore Côte d'Ivoire. The company also announced last month that it will provide integrated well testing services for the Northern Endurance Partnership’s CCS project offshore northeast England.
