Woodside Energy expects the deepwater Trion Field development offshore Mexico to deliver first oil in 2028.

Woodside Energy expects the deepwater Trion Field development offshore Mexico to deliver first oil in 2028, with all major contracts now confirmed and main regulatory steps in motion.

Partner PEMEX discovered Trion in 2012, 180 km off the Mexican coast in 2,500 m water depth.

Fabrication has started on the three floating production unit’s topside modules in Ulsan, South Korea, and first steel was recently cut for the floating storage offloading vessel’s disconnectable turret mooring system at the Cosco Shipyard in Qidong, China.

The Transocean drillship Deepwater Thalassa will start development drilling in first-quarter 2026, with SLB managing the delivery of the 18 ultradeepwater wells over a three-year period.

Under a separate contract, SLB is providing the subsea horizontal trees, controls and associated topside equipment, with manufacturing again underway.

Woodside’s local teams in Mexico have submitted the environmental permit application, and work has now started on the HSE management system permit application.
