BSEE: 95% of Gulf of Mexico oil production shut-in

NEW ORLEANS – Personnel remain evacuated from 288 production platforms and 11 rigs in the Gulf of Mexico due to Hurricane Ida, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

Seven dynamically positioned rigs have moved off location.

From 25 operator reports, BSEE estimates that about 94.6% of the current oil production – 1,721,809 b/d – in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut in. BSEE estimates that about 93.57% of the gas production – 2,087 MMcf/d – has been shut in.

According to Shell, the United States Coast Guard reported visual confirmation that the Mars, Olympus, and Ursa platforms remain on location. Shell has scheduled its own flyover for tomorrow afternoon to assess these and other assets, that were in the path of the storm.
