Evacuations continue as Hurricane Michael nears Florida

Operators in the eastern Gulf of Mexico are evacuating more platforms and rigs in preparation for Hurricane Michael, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

NEW ORLEANS – Operators in the eastern Gulf of Mexico are evacuating more platforms and rigs in preparation for Hurricane Michael, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

Based on data from offshore operator reports submitted as of 11:30 a.m. CDT today, personnel have been evacuated from 75 production platforms, 10.9% of the 687 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

Personnel have been evacuated from three rigs (non-dynamically positioned), equivalent to 13.6% of the 22 non-DP rigs currently operating in the Gulf.

Eight dynamically positioned rigs have moved off location out of the storm’s path as a precaution. This number represents 47.1% of the 17 rigs of this type currently operating in the Gulf.

From operator reports, it is estimated that about 670,831 b/d or 39.5% of the current oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut-in. It is also estimated that 726 MMcf/d or 28.4% of the natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut-in.
