Exploration licenses MLO-114 and MLO-119 are 300 km (186 mi) offshore Tierra del Fuego, southeastArgentina, in water depths of up to 500 m (1,640 ft). The 6,000-sq km (2,317-sq mi) and 4,500-sq km (1,737-sq mi) blocks will both be covered by 3D seismic surveys during the initial exploration phase.

Tullow Oil will operate, the other partner being Argentina’s Pluspetrol. Wintershall expects official confirmation of the award by the country’s authorities next month.

Wintershall already produces hydrocarbons offshore Tierra del Fuego as a partner to Total.
