The Phase 11 development of the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf should reach its current nameplate production capacity of more than 1 Bcf/d in the next two months, according to an Aug. 3 Shana News Agency report.

Project head Keyvan Tariqati told Shana that thereafter, the focus would switch to production stabilization while drilling continues on the second block.

Pars Oil and Gas Co. (POGC) is managing the project, with an estimated cost of close to $4 billion, on behalf of National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC).

Eventually, Phase 11 should deliver 2 Bcf/d.

POGC is fabricating and installing offshore facilities at two border locations (South Pars extends into Qatari waters where it is known as the North Field), and drilling 27 wells. Eleven of these are currently in production.

Preparations are now underway to start drilling at the SPD11A location.

Development drilling continued during the 12-day war earlier this year, Tariqati said, but with logistical challenges, operational risks and supply constraints.

Despite the difficulties, the project teams managed to bring two further wells online during this period.

Future plans include pressure boosting and other infrastructure upgrades to maintain the design production levels and support operational reliability.

NIOC started gas production from South Pars Phase 11 in 2023, marking the first output from the final development phase of the giant offshore gas field.
