ECOnnect Energy will deploy its IQuay C-Class floating LNG (FLNG) infrastructure offshore The Bahamas, under a charter agreement with the New Providence Gas joint venture between Shell Bahamas Power Co. and Sun Oil Holdings.

New Providence Gas is developing LNG import infrastructure to support natural gas supply and power generation on New Providence Island, home to the Bahamian capital of Nassau. 

The "La Santa Maria" system will enable LNG imports from an LNG carrier to the onshore terminal, avoiding the coastal construction associated with a conventional fixed jetty.

The floating platform will transfer LNG directly from the LNG carrier to an onshore storage facility via flexible, floating insulated pipelines. ECOnnect’s IQuay C-Class technology can also be connected to floating storage units.

According to the company, it is designed for rapid deployment, delivered to the site as a complete unit and commissioned without the need for extensive onsite construction.

Its modular design also allows it to be relocated or reconfigured should operational needs change over time.

The project reflects growing interest in FLNG import infrastructure among island nations and smaller energy markets seeking to secure natural gas supplies while reducing the cost, environmental footprint, and construction timelines associated with conventional onshore receiving terminals and fixed marine jetties.
