TEHRAN– Water and gas injection techniques are being applied to boost oil production from the Salman oil field in the Persian Gulf.

Bahman Yazdanpapah, manager of the Salman platform, told Iranian news service Shana that the field, which is shared with Abu Dhabi, had been in production since 1969.

The new reservoir stimulation measures are being implemented as the field enters the second half of its projected lifespan. Around 80 MMcf/d of produced gas from the field is being injected into the oil production wells.

Remaining gas from Salman’s nine gas wells is exported to Siri Island via a 36-in. pipeline.

Oil is part-processed on the Salman platform before being sent to Lavan Island for secondary processing, transportation and storage.
