Development drilling has started at the Belal Field, 30 km southeast of the South Pars Field in the Persian Gulf.

Pars Oil and Gas Co. and Petropars are jointly responsible for the development, which will expand Iran’s offshore gas production capacity.

Hamid Bovard, head of the National Iranian Oil Co., told news service Shana that the project was progressing on schedule, with parallel drilling, deck construction and offshore pipeline installation operations.

Belal is in 70 m water depth, close to the maritime median line between Iran and Qatar. The field contains and estimated 3 Tcf of in-place gas and more than 100 MMbbl of condensate.
