Harbour selects FPSO candidate for Mexico's Zama development

Harbour Energy has signed an MoU to deploy the FPSO Lakam Ha at the Zama oilfield offshore Mexico while advancing FEED planning for the project, which is targeting FID readiness by year-end 2027.

Why this news matters:

  • The FPSO agreement provides greater clarity on the planned development concept for the Zama oilfield, one of Mexico's largest recent offshore discoveries.

  • Harbour Energy is moving key development activities forward through FEED tendering as the project targets FID readiness in late 2027.

  • Progress at Zama and the nearby Kan project signals continued investment in offshore Mexico's deepwater and shallow-water development pipeline.

Harbour Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to deploy the FPSO Lakam Ha for the Zama oilfield development offshore Mexico.

The 241-m-long, 41.83-m-wide vessel is understood to be owned currently by TMS Tankers. It was originally built in 1993, then converted in 2013 to an FPSO at Keppel Shipyard in Singapore, serving briefly at the Balnaves Field offshore northwest Australia.

However, Woodside Energy terminated operator Bumi Armada’s contract for the vessel, known at the time as Armada Claire.

The FPSO is currently reported to be located in the Singapore Strait.

In its latest results statement, Harbour confirmed it had issued invitations to tender for the main FEED packages for the Zama project, which will also feature a wellhead platform.

Harbour added that partner alignment has been strengthened by Grupo Carso’s increased participation in both Zama and Kan, another planned offshore Mexico FPSO-based development.

Both projects should be FID ready around year-end 2027, the company added.
