CNOOC starts up Wenchang 16-2 oil production offshore China

CNOOC has announced the commissioning of the Wenchang 16-2 oilfield development project in the South China Sea.

CNOOC has brought onstream the Wenchang 16-2 oilfield development in the western Pearl River Mouth Basin of the South China Sea, the company reported Sept. 4.

CNOOC installed a new jacket platform, which is connected to existing offshore facilities serving the Wenchang oil fields.

It combines oil and gas production with drilling and completion operations, with onboard living quarters.

The company plans to eventually drill 15 development wells, with production of the light crude expected to peak at about 11,200 boe/d in 2027.
