WOODBRIDGE, UKZADCO has commissioned Amarinth to supply a super duplex API 610 OH3 emergency seawater sanitary pump for the Upper Zakum oil field development, 84 km (52 mi) northwest and offshore of Abu Dhabi.

This is the world’s second largest offshore oilfield, currently producing 640,000 b/d of oil.

Because of the project’s tight budget Amarinth proposed reducing costs by minimizing travel between the UK and UAE for both organizations through video conferencing - in the UAE, this was hosted by the company’s local agent NAMA.

All technical and project meetings were conducted via video conferencing allowing all personnel associated with the project to work together in real time, Amarinth said.

Shared screens allowed all parties to interact concerning design information and to conclude project and commercial discussions quickly and with greater clarity than the traditional multiple rounds of physical meetings, the company added.

Amarinth used the link to determine the footprint for the process design, and could spend more time explaining cost variations alongside the design decisions with ZADCO staff at an earlier stage: this, the company claimed, lessened the risk of additional costs or surprises later in the project.
