Equinor makes small oil find in the North Sea

Equinor Energy has made a minor oil discovery in the Fram area of the northern Norwegian North Sea, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

OSLO, Norway – Equinor Energy has made a minor oil discovery in the Fram area of the northern Norwegian North Sea, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).

The semisubmersibleDeepsea Bergen drilled well 35/11-22 S in 363 m (1,191 ft) of water in license 248 C, 10 km (6.2 mi) west of the Fram field.

In the Middle to Upper Jurassic the well encountered oil but no oil/water contact in the Heather formation. The NPD assesses recoverable volumes at 0.2-0.7 MMcm.

Although the licensees do not consider the discovery profitable at present, they will undertake further studies of the find and other nearby discoveries and prospects.

TheDeepsea Bergen will now plug an older exploration well in PL 052 on the Veslefrikk field in the same area, again for Equinor.
