Development drilling under way at North Field East offshore Qatar

The jackup GulfDrill Lovanda has started development drilling at the offshore North Field East project, according to Qatar Petroleum.

DOHA, Qatar – The jackup GulfDrill Lovanda has started development drilling at the offshore North Field East (NFE) project, according to Qatar Petroleum.

The first NFE development well was spudded on March 29, 2020. Eight jackups are drilling the 80 NFE development wells.

This phase of the North Field expansion project will increase the State of Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 million tons per annum (MMtpa) to 110 MMtpa. The second phase, the North Field South project (NFS), will further increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 110 MMtpa to 126 MMtpa.

In addition, installation of the first four offshore jackets is under way and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
