DOHA, QatarTotalEnergies has been named the first international partner in Qatar’s 16 MMt per year North Field South LNG project.

It will take a 9.375% stake in the project, led by QatarEnergy with 75%.

TotalEnergies was also the first company to join the 32-MMt/yr North Field East project with a 6.25% share. These developments should add 3.5 MMt per year of production to its worldwide LNG portfolio by 2028.

The projects, which comprise the wider North Field Expansion project, will increase LNG production from the offshore North Field, adding 48 MMt per year to Qatar’s export capacity, which should reach 126 MMt per year.

The southern area of the North Field will be developed with five platforms, 50 wells and gas pipelines to the onshore processing plant, with two new 8-MMt/yr liquefaction trains.

CO2 from natural gas production will be captured and sequestered, and the plant will be connected to Qatar’s electrical grid. This will be supplied with electricity from the 800-MW Al Kharsaah solar power plant project, currently under construction by QatarEnergy in Ras Laffan, with TotalEnergies’ support.
