DNO swaps Norway licenses with Equinor to cut decommissioning obligations

DNO will transfer interests in the Kveikje and Heisenberg discoveries and the Romsås prospect to Equinor in exchange for a sharply reduced decommissioning deposit, improving near-term liquidity by more than $35 million.

Why this news matters:

  • The transaction eases a significant decommissioning-related financial obligation DNO assumed through its acquisition of Sval Energi, freeing more than $35 million in near-term liquidity.

  • The deal highlights a growing North Sea trend of using asset swaps and portfolio optimization to manage late-life field liabilities while preserving production growth plans.
