NUREMBERG, Germany --The Sensors & Advanced Packaging (SAP) business unit of Vectron International has announced a partnership with OELCHECK GmbH, a leader in lubricant analysis and related consultation.

To determine the ability of Vectron's low shear ViSmart sensor to measure and monitor viscosity changes as a function of oil condition for both fixed and mobile assets, OELCHECK is field testing the sensor across a wide temperature spectrum ranging from -10 to 105° C (14 to 221° F) in various oil types, including diesel, hydraulic, turbine, and gearbox oils.

OELCHECK is supporting the introduction of the ViSmart sensor together with the use of oil analysis to find out if the sensor is a qualified small, fully embeddable, and real-time addition to standard laboratory sample tests.

Correlation functions are being created to map the data collected from the ViSmart sensor to industry benchmark data collected from a standard lab rheometer. This will determine whether the ViSmart sensor is capable of measuring and monitoring viscosity as well as industry standard lab instruments.

The low shear ViSmart viscosity sensor uses reliable semiconductor technology, has no moving parts, and is sealed for complete immersion. It is unaffected by vibration or flow conditions, does not need field calibration and is packaged in a very portable size at 12.7 mm x 76.2 mm (0.5 in. x 3.0 in.) and weighs 8 ounces.

It measures viscosity of lubricants from ISO VG 10 to ISO VG 460 at 40° C (104° F) and is rated for temperatures up to 125° C (257° F) in the standard package, with custom options and configurations available for specific industry applications and process requirements.

"We are confident that Vectron's first-of-its-kind low shear ViSmart viscosity sensor, combined with our deep knowledge base and expertise in oil condition monitoring, will help allow our customers in the mobile and fixed asset markets the opportunity to significantly advance the state of their maintenance programs affording increased time and costs savings through real-time oil analysis," says Peter Weismann, president, OELCHECK GmbH.
