PARIS -- Petrobras has awarded Technip, in association with JGC Corp. and Modec Inc., a lump-sum contract for the front-end engineering design (FEED) of a proposed floating liquefied natural gas unit (FLNG) for the pre-salt reservoirs of the Santos basin, offshore Brazil.

The project, conducted by a joint venture comprising Petrobras, BG, Repsol, and Galp Energia, would be the first FLNG unit in Brazil and is expected to have an LNG capacity of approximately 2.7 million tons/yr. Technip's operating centers in Paris and Rio de Janeiro will execute the FEED study, which is scheduled for completion by year-end 2010.

Petrobras has also awarded a similar front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract to SBM Offshore in collaboration with Chiyoda.
