Al-Khafji sticks with Penspen for project services

Penspen has won a five-year contract to provide project management services (PMS) to Al-Khafji Joint Operations (KJO), a joint venture between Aramco Gulf Operations and Kuwait Gulf Oil Co.

RICHMOND-ON-THAMES, UK – Penspen has won a five-year contract to provide project management services (PMS) to Al-Khafji Joint Operations (KJO), a joint venture between Aramco Gulf Operations and Kuwait Gulf Oil Co.

The contract relates to development of the Khafji and Hout fields on the Kuwait / Saudi Arabia border, and follows KJO’s previous PMS award to Penspen in 2005.

The work scope covers management of engineering, detailed design, procurement, and construction of KJO's oil and gas projects in Khafji. Penspen's project management team will be based on site, with other teams located in various contractors’ offices worldwide.

Around 200 people will work on this program for five years, which will include major offshore field development from FEED through tendering, detailed design, and construction.

Penspen’s specific tasks include:
    • Reviewing the design basis and scoping papers for all KJO projects
    • Supervising FEED preparation by other engineering contractors and issue tenders for EPC contracts
    • A commercial and technical review of EPC contractor bids, and a technical review and approval  of EPC contractors’ design by the satellite team
    • Following up material procurement, and supervise construction and commissioning
