OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority has sanctioned two new exploration wells in the Barents Sea, and issued further approvals to Statoil for the Johan Sverdrup development in the North Sea.
Aker BP has authorization to use the semisubmersible Deepsea Stavanger to drill well 7221/12-1 in production license 659 in the Barents Sea on the Svanefjell prospect, 65 km (40 mi) north-north-east of the Snøhvit gas/condensate field.
Water depth at the site is 345 m (1,132 ft): drilling should start later this month.
Spirit Energy has approval to drill wells 7322/7-1 and 7322/7-2 in PL 852 in the northern Barents Sea, 138 km (86 mi) southwest of Bjørnøya and 310 km (192 mi) north of Hammerfest, in 454 m (1,490 ft) water depth, using the semisubIsland Innovator.
Statoil’s consents apply to use of the flotelSafe Zephyrus to provide accommodation during the completion of Johan Sverdrup Phase 1, between May 2018 and May 2019, and to the riser platform, the first of four to be installed at the field center in the first phase.
In this case the consent concerns the use of the facility for commissioning of equipment and an area in the installation phase.
Various facilities and installations will be made ready and commissioned from the current quarter until the projected start-up in 4Q 2019.
