McDermott updates global construction projects

McDermott International has completed most of the offshore work program on the Safaniya field off Saudi Arabia under its long-term agreement II with Saudi Aramco.

HOUSTONMcDermott International has completed most of the offshore work program on the Safaniya field off Saudi Arabia under its long-term agreement II with Saudi Aramco.

Engineering and procurement for the Safaniya Phase 5 project are nearing a conclusion, with the first two platforms fully constructed.

Safaniya Phase 6 is proceeding as scheduled with the first steel plate cut on March 12.

McDermott’s Kuala Lumpur office is advancing the offshore Bul Hanine EPCI project for Qatar Petroleum, with fabrication work at the company’s Batam complex in Indonesia due to start before mid-year.

Another recent Aramco award covering13 new jackets is also proceeding with the first structural steel expected to arrive at McDermott’s Jebel Ali fabrication yard in the UAE shortly.

As for the contractor’s offshore construction projects in other regions,ONGC’s Vashishta offshore India delivered first gas in late March, while work on INPEX’s Ichthys project offshore northwest Australia is substantially complete.

In the same region, double joint welding of heavy and light wall pipe for the Greater Western Flank 2 project was completed in January at a purpose-built facility within the Batam yard, and the company expects to finish the offshore scope by mid-year.

The Gorgon Phase 2 subsea manifolds fabrication project, awarded last December by Baker Hughes, a GE company, is progressing as scheduled, and last month the company completed the West Barracouta subsea tieback design for ExxonMobil.

West Barracouta is 6 km (3.7 mi) southwest of the Barracouta platform in the VIC/LI block offshore southeast Australia.

In the Gulf of Mexico, McDermott has installed an eight-legged jacket for PEMEX’s Abkatun project and is now working on installation of the tripods and bridges.

The Altamira yard is close to finishing mechanical work on the deck forBP’s Angelin project offshore Trinidad and Tobago.
