NEW DELHI, India – ONGC has initiated its KG-DWN-98/2 oil project in the Bay of Bengal offshore eastern India, with the drillship Platinum Explorer spudding the #KDG-A well 35 km (22 mi) off the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The well, one of 34 subsea wells planned for the development, has a targeted depth of 2,346 m (7,697 ft), in a water depth of 518 m (1,700 ft). It should produce at rates of around 5,000 b/d. In total there will be 15 oil producers, eight gas producers, and 11 water injectors.
ONGC eventually aims to deliver around 25 MM metric tons (27.56 MM tons) of oil and 45 bcm of gas from the development, with peak production of 78,000 b/d and 15 MMcm/d.
First gas should flow by end-2019 followed by first oil in 2020.
The wells will be connected to roughly 425 km (264 mi) of subsea pipelines and 150 km (93 mi) of control umbilicals in water depths ranging from 300-1,400 m (984-4,593 ft), with an offshore process platform exporting gas through ONGC’s existing subsea infrastructure and facilities established at the Odalarevu terminal on the Andhra coast.
An FPSO in a water depth of 413 m (1,355 ft) will process the oil and gas.
ONGC estimates total capex for the project of $5.07 billion and opex of $5.12 billion over the field’s 16-year lifespan.
Last month the company commissioned its first deepwater project,S1 Vasishta offshore eastern India, designed to produce around 4.3 MMcm/d of gas.
