SANDNES, Norway – The Goliat platform has been towed on board the Dockwise Vanguard and is ready for departure to the Eni-operated Goliat field in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.
Eni Norge says that at 107 m (351 ft) in diameter, the Goliat platform is the largest cylindrical FPSO facility ever built. It was designed bySevan Marine in Arendal especially for the Arctic conditions of the Barents Sea, and was built at Hyundai Heavy Industries’ yard in South Korea. The Goliat field FPSO has a production capacity of about 100,000 b/d, and 1 MMbbl storage capacity.
The Eni-operated Goliat field is the world's northernmost offshore oil field, and the first oil field to come into production in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.
On Feb. 2, 2015, following the successful completion of a series of plannedtests and trials, the FPSO was towed on board the Dockwise Vanguard, which will now transport it on its long journey around the southern tip of Africa. Following some final preparations, it is expected to depart on its roughly 60-day journey soon and arrive in Hammerfest by the middle of April. The platform will make a brief stop-over before being towed out to the Goliat field location. Tie-in operations and preparations for production will take place during the summer.
Theplatform will be supplied with electrical power from the mainland using the longest submarine cable of its type in the world. The field is planned to come onstream in the middle of this year.
