Seatrium may contest Empire 1 wind vessel contract termination
The company has received notice that its contract for a wind turbine installation vessel for the Empire Wind 1 project on the US East Coast has been terminated.
Seatrium Energy International has received a notice of termination for a contract for a newbuild wind turbine installation vessel for the Empire Wind 1 development offshore New York State/New Jersey.
An affiliate of Maersk Offshore Wind placed the $475 million order with Sembcorp Marine Rigs & Floaters (since renamed Seatrium Energy International). The vessel is currently close to completion.
Seatrium said it would investigate alternative viable solutions, including with the end-client Empire Offshore Wind LLC.
The company added that it is reviewing the validity of the notice and its detailed allegations, and it may initiate legal proceedings for wrongful termination.
In April, the Trump administration halted work on Equinor’s Empire Wind 1 project that had just started construction in federal waters off the coasts of New Jersey and New York.
