Seatrium awarded LoI for Japan offshore wind lift vessel

Nov. 15, 2024
Seatrium highlights its latest offshore project updates in its third-quarter report.

Seatrium signed a letter of intent (LoI) Nov. 10 with Japan’s Penta-Ocean Construction (POC) to perform early engineering for a 5,000-t fully revolving heavy-lift vessel project for the Japanese offshore wind sector.

Pending FID by POC, the full engineering, procurement and construction contract award should follow early in 2025.

POC currently owns self-propelled trailing suction hopper and cutter suction dredgers for marine construction works and two turbine installation vessels with respective crane capacities of 800 t and 1,600 t.

During September, fabrication started on the 2-GW HVDC IJmuiden Ver Beta offshore converter platform.

Seatrium also confirmed the installation of the 13,000-metric ton offshore converter platform at the Sofia wind farm in the UK North Sea, said to be the heaviest lift to date in the offshore wind industry.

In its latest results update, Seatrium also detailed some of its recently delivered projects, which included a fourth newbuild jackup to Borr Drilling on Aug. 15 and the fifth and final jackup to Borr on Nov. 15 as well as a refurbished floating production unit to Salamanca FPS Infra.
