Two recent developments in the LNG shipping sector underscore the accelerating demand for advanced vessel design and specialized fleet management services—key indicators of the offshore energy industry's evolving logistics and infrastructure needs.
Pronav adds first FSRU to managed LNG fleet
Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) said Sept. 18 that its Pronav ship management center had for the first time taken on technical management of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
The 2019-built Turquoise P, owned by Pardus Energy, is stationed at the Etki Liman LNG terminal near Izmir in the Turkish Aegean Sea. The 294-m-long vessel has a cargo capacity of 170,000 cbm.
The Etki Liman LNG terminal is connected to Turkey’s national gas grid.
According to BSM, only a few of the just over 50 FSRUs in service globally are run by third-party ship managers.
GTT secures tank design order for four new LNG carriers
Meanwhile, French engineering firm GTT reported Sept. 17 that it had received an order from Samsung Heavy Industries for a tank design for a new floating LNG (FLNG) vessel, to be deployed offshore Africa.
The cryogenic membrane containment system is for the LNG1 storage tanks, with a total capacity of 238,700 cu m. These will be equipped with GTT’s Mark III technology.
