KCA sells jackup drilling rig to Egyptian purchaser

KCA Deutag has sold its jackup drilling rig Ben Loyal to Egypt-headquartered Advanced Energy Systems.

ABERDEEN, UKKCA Deutag has sold its jackup drillingrigBen Loyal to Egypt-headquartered Advanced Energy Systems.

The Friede & Goldman L-780 MOD II rig, designed to operate in water depths of up to 300 ft (91 m), was built in 1981. KCA Deutag acquired it in 2005, and until last October it had been continuously under contract in theGulf of Mexico.

It is due for a special periodic survey this year.

KCA Deutag CEO Norrie McKay said his company would “continue to focus our growth strategy on our core businesses of premium rig services, specialist engineering and design, and land rig manufacturing.”
