SHANGHAI, China – Lloyd’s Register (LR) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China State Shipbuilding Corp. (CSSC) to jointly study, research, and develop marine equipment and technology.
The MoU will include research into zero-emission vessel projects and applications that comply with the IMO’s 2050 decarbonization target.
The partners plan to establish a Technology Research Centre in Shanghai to address the challenges of new regulation, and to lead development of smart technologies for use in the global offshore and marine industries.
Other goals include assessing use of blockchain and digital twin technologies and ship propulsion systems, including various clean energy sources and their certification. They will also evaluate FPSO, FLNG, and FSRU design concepts.
