ZURICH, SwitzerlandMODEC has contracted MAN Energy Solutions to provide the compressor trains used in gas production on the newbuild FPSO for Eni’s Area 1 block development offshore Mexico.

The vessel will operate 10 km (6.2 mi) offshore in a water depth of around 32 m (105 ft).

MAN’s consignment will comprise six centrifugal compressor trains: three medium-/high pressure (MP/HP) and two low-pressure (LP) trains and one fuel gas compressor train with one single-stage centrifugal compressor driven by a fixed-speed electric motor.

The MP/HP compressor trains will be three intercooled two-stage centrifugal compressors driven by a fixed-speed electric motor, while the LP compressor trains will be two single-stage centrifugal compressors driven by a variable-speed electric motor.

All compression systems will be designed, manufactured, and tested by the company at its headquarters in Zurich.

The package should be ready for installation on the FPSO in February 2020 and will help maintaining pressure at the Area 1 to maximize gas production efficiency.

The FPSO will be capable of processing 90,000 b/d of crude and 75 MMcf/d of gas, with start-up slated for 2021.
