(Norway) - Norwegian oil and gas company Acergy has purchased two ultraheavy-duty hydraulic ROVs from Schilling Robotics. The 150-shp, 3000-m ROV systems are based on Schilling's UHD ROV and will, according to Schilling, add power, flexibility, and enhanced vehicle control and intervention capability to Acergy's remote intervention fleet.

Schilling also says that the UHD technology can maneuver heavy loads under close control. The ROVs use modular components and offer a digital telemetry system with expandable plug 'n' play capability. The ROVs also apply remote intervention interfaces, which reportedly permit rapid reconfiguration between tasks.

These ROV systems are new and a collaborative effort between the two companies to produce a new fleet vehicle for Acergy. The ROV systems have all the core UHD technologies, but they also incorporate features to enhance operational efficiency by allowing simple and flexible configuration for mission-specific tasks.

Acergy's ROV systems will be installed aboard thePolar Queen, which the company recently chartered for deepwater flexible pipelay and subsea construction tasks worldwide. The ROVs will support this work in depths up to 2000 m. Both systems will be delivered in November 2006.

"We're very pleased about partnering with Acergy to create these ROV systems," says Tyler Schilling, CEO of Schilling Robotics. "Because Acergy has extensive experience in designing, configuring, and operating ROVs, they understand the value of the advanced UHD technology and modular design. They also have terrific insight into component layout, frame design, and use of tooling packages."
