(US, GoM) - MFRI Inc., a manufacturer of custom-designed industrial filtration products, specialty piping systems, and industrial process cooling equipment, says its Perma-Pipe Inc. subsidiary has received more than $21.5 million in recent orders from major and independent oil and gas companies to pre-insulate subsea oil and gas flow lines.
These products will be manufactured at the Perma-Pipe facility in New Iberia, Louisiana.
Perma-Pipe has completed $3 million of initial orders announced in 3Q 2005 for its glass syntactic polyurethane (GSPU) product.
The company has recently received additional orders totaling more than $18 million to apply its GSPU insulation for GoM subsea oil flow lines.
Its process automatically applies specially formulated compounds to the exterior of steel pipes to be incorporated into oil and gas flow lines and risers connecting subsea wells to their host platforms.
All of these orders will be completed before the end of 2006.
The system is designed to provide reliable insulation properties when subjected to the large hydrostatic pressures of deep water over long periods of time.
These flow lines will be installed in water depths ranging from 2,000 to 6,500 ft.
Insulating subsea oil flow lines is a common practice at these water depths in order to prevent paraffin or hydrate buildup on the internal pipe surfaces thus ensuring a steady flow of oil from the well.
In addition, Perma-Pipe received new orders totaling approximately $3.5 million for its polyurethane foam and PE jacket for pipe-in-pipe and shallow water applications.
These orders are for encased pipeline applications in the deep water of the GoM and for a shallow water project in West Africa and will be processed through the 3Q 2006.
The work has been secured through Bayou Flow Technologies LLC, a joint venture of MFRI's subsidiary, Perma-Pipe Inc., The Bayou Companies LLC, and Cuming Insulation Corp., formed to market coating, insulation, and fabrication of subsea pipelines and structures to the oil industry.
