Rescue teams locate fourth body after rig incident offshore Gabon
As search efforts continue for one missing person, Borr Drilling says an independent investigation will examine all potential causes behind the loss of stability that led to the Prospector 5 capsizing offshore Gabon.
Operator Borr Drilling reported that all four individuals retrieved are currently being transported to Port Gentil, Gabon. Searches continue for the remaining individual who is still unaccounted for.
The rig was preparing to drill development wells for BW Energy on the offshore Dussafu license.
Borr Drilling said it had tasked a classification society with extensive experience in offshore and maritime incident investigations to perform an independent investigation into the incident.
The company stressed its commitment to an independent and objective process to ascertain the root cause, adding that it would cooperate fully and transparently with the authorities and other parties involved.
“It is also critically important to establish a thorough and objective understanding of what occurred and all possible causes of a catastrophic loss of stability are in scope and will be considered.
The investigation will fully consider all evidence and assess every potential cause before reaching a final determination.”
